Majlis Profesor Negara, UMK Chapter had organised a two-hour Forum on “Bicara Rakyat Bersama Profesor” focusing issues on Poverty in Kelantan : Perception and Fact at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Jeli, Kelantan on 2 March 2013. This forum is the first among the 16 serial programmes in various regions which were being planned all over Kelantan. All panels comprised of Professors from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Teknologi MARA, and Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan. The purpose of this program is to provide an avenue, platform and serves as a channel of knowledge sharing between professors, and scholar with teachers and societies on current issue in eradicating and reducing poverty.
The forum was chaired and officiated by Professor Dr. Haji Ibrahim Che Omar, the Chairman of MPN UMK Chapter who is also the Campus Director, UMK Jeli Campus. Presence along were Prof Rosdi Ab Rahman, the Head Unit of ECER UMK, Associate Prof Dr. Zaki, the Coordinator of “Jaringan Industri and Masyarakat” Universiti Teknologi MARA and one Professor from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Attended by local communities, teachers, and academics, the forum had brought about successful initiatives in the aspect of defining poverty and mechanism suggestions that respective authorities should strategize to reduce poverty. MPN UMK Chapter in this effort will also address the NKRA’s agenda and is aimed to support the Government effort in ensuring that no single Malaysian gets left behind as the nation progresses forward. The forum concluded that involvement of relevant stakeholder is vital; and help the needy to participate in the economy with a well-planned eco-system which includes the relevant governance and key stakeholders in the support of the infrastructure to reduce poverty in the country.
